Key strengths
SOIL MANAGEMENT
- The facility has used natural refrigerant (Ammonia NH3) in its cooling system since its opening in 2012. Since 2021, the Greenway solution has been employed in the cooling circuit for the ice slab.
- Ice maintenance is conducted weekly using an electric resurfacer and a thermal mower running on biofuel.
- All maintenance activities are recorded in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for efficient tracking and management.
DEVELOPMENT AND PROMOTION OF TRANSPORT SOLUTIONS
- The Médiacité gallery is served by several bus lines from the Liège public transport network (TEC).
- Bike racks are available within the Médiacité parking area, alongside eight electric vehicle charging stations.
- Ice rink users can benefit from discounted parking rates at the Médiacité parking lot, enhancing accessibility and convenience.
WATER MANAGEMENT
- Regular and optimized monitoring of water consumption is conducted, covering the resurfacer, showers, taps, and other facilities.
- Several technical optimization measures are in place, including a rainwater harvesting system, with a new system installed by VMA in September 2024.
- A project to implement a closed-loop water system for the snow pit water used by the resurfacer is also underway, contributing to sustainability efforts.
EXEMPLARITY
- Le Coq Sportif is the official equipment supplier for the ice rink, a French brand committed to "sustainable sports."
- There is signage provided by BHS Média on the premises.
- "FAIR PLAY - RESPECT" signage is displayed during ice hockey matches, featuring a white ribbon to combat violence against women, in collaboration with the city of Liège and the Bulldogs de Liège.
- The facility also supports disadvantaged individuals through special pricing and a "kick-off" initiative to ensure broader access to activities.
The Fair Play For Planet team congratulates Liège Ice Rink for its commitment to a more sustainable and responsible sport.
