Our observation
Sport is a powerful driver of unity and education, playing an essential role in our society. Whatever the discipline, it inspires us, transcends borders and cultures, and conveys values such as respect, solidarity, and commitment. However, a less visible reality remains: the environmental and societal challenges that this industry must address.
Sport in the era of climate change
Climate change is already impacting the practice of sport. Heatwaves are making some competitions dangerous, and the scarcity of water resources is making the maintenance of sports fields increasingly difficult. In addition, the organization of sporting events generates a significant carbon footprint. All of this threatens to transform sport as we know it. Faced with these challenges, it is essential to change the way we operate. These changes should be seen as an opportunity to preserve the future of sport and make it a driver of the ecological transition.
The societal role of sport
Sport plays a key role in our society and has “the power to change the world,” as Nelson Mandela once said. The organization of sporting events affects local communities, whether through the economic impact on local businesses or the social impact through inclusivity and accessibility of facilities. Sport, therefore, has a responsibility to strengthen social cohesion by promoting equality, inclusion, and well-being for all.
The environmental and social footprint of sport in figures
Transport accounts for around 80% of the carbon footprint of a sporting event.
40% of the electricity consumption of a sports facility (gymnasium, dojo, swimming pool, ice rink, etc.) is wasted through heat loss.
100 billion liters of water are needed to irrigate the 30,000 natural grass pitches in France.
An event of 5,000 people generates an average of 2.5 tons of waste in one day.
1 in 3 sports facilities in France is not accessible to people with disabilities.
Our ambition is to become the leading eco-responsible label in the world of sport.
