MEETING WITH JULIEN PIERRE: ARE SPORT AND ECOLOGY REALLY COMPATIBLE?

A former top-level rugby player, Julien Pierre embarked on a new adventure a few years ago by creating "Fair Play For Planet", an environmental label designed specifically for sports clubs, venues and events.

Julien Pierre has chosen to devote his "post-sports" career to preserving the environment. To this end, in 2020 he founded the Fair Play For Planet (FPFP) label, with one main objective: to reconcile environmental issues with the world of sport. For ID, Valère Correard, journalist and founder of the medium, spoke to the former French rugby international.

A theme close to his heart since childhood

Aware of the need to protect endangered species and their ecosystems from an early age, the former sportsman confides that he grew up in an animal park created by his grandfather in Anjou. Although rugby became a priority for him at the time, Julien Pierre remembers being deeply affected by environmental issues a few years later, during a trip to Sumatra, Indonesia. "I got a slap in the face when I discovered landscapes devastated by pipelines as far as the eye could see, forests burnt, mangroves bulldozed, villages crumbling under plastic waste..."
